‘Senseless’ vandals strike at Littlehampton play park – again

ARUN District Council has launched an appeal today (Wednesday, November 13) after a children’s play park was wrecked by vandals – again.

Vandals have struck at the play area at Brookfield Park, causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage.

The Littlehampton adventure play park has been victim to a spate of attacks during the past few months.

The latest damage on October 31, 2013, included removal of gate latches and bolts from seating, which could have caused an accident if not spotted by the council parks team.

Patrols are now being stepped up in the hope of deterring the vandalism, which has so far racked up a bill of more than £1,000.

Councillor Paul Dendle, Arun District Council’s cabinet member for environmental services, said: “Whoever is carrying out these senseless acts of vandalism obviously doesn’t care if one of these youngsters gets hurt playing on equipment which has been sabotaged.

“If they really don’t care about that aspect, they might be more concerned about who pays to put the damage right.

“The money comes from the pockets of taxpayers, so it is the people of Arun who will end up footing the bill, and therefore I urge anyone with information to contact us or the police so we can take action against them.”

Anyone with information about the incidents should contact Sussex Police on 101 or Arun District Council’s parks and greenspaces team on 01903 737951.
