About a month ago, the victim stated she answered the door of her home in London Road to a smartly dressed man who asked if she had any items she wanted to sell.

Police say the 91-year-old invited the suspect in and showed him around, and agreed a price of £100 for a number of items.

After he left, the woman noticed a sentimental item which she had shown him – and which she insisted was not for sale – was missing from her living room. This is described as a heavy dark brown metal object depicting a religious scene.

The incident was only reported to police after the victim recently discussed it with a community worker.

The suspect is described as a white man with fair hair, of stocky build, about 5’ 5” and wearing a light coloured suit.
