Mr Whipp said the proposed cuts could affect the 289 service from Small Dole to Brighton, and the 108/9 service, run by Compass Travel, from Shoreham to Horsham. Both of these routes are scheduled to end on November 24.

At the meeting, councillor Whipp said: This looks like the county council are going backwards with the local transport plans.

He added he had already handed over a petition with 1,661 signatures, protesting about the cuts, to the county council, which has also received another 200 signature petition from the North Lancing area and a letter from MP Tim Loughton regarding the 14 service from Lancing to Worthing.

District councillors from all sides of the political spectrum condemned the cuts on Monday night.
