Set sail for Maritime Festival

Hundreds are expected to be at Srand Quay on Sunday as Rye celebrates its maritime heritage.

Boats will be decorated and dressed in all their finery and there will be a host of quay-side entertainment to enjoy.

The festival runs from 11am - 5pm. Attractions include live music supplied by 1066 Rockitmen and local bands. The Creole Jazz band are playing and there will be an appearnace from the Hastings Sea Shanty singers.

Other attractions include historical divers, owls on display, face-painting and a demonstration of FlyBoarding, as well as a beer tent, a barbecue provided by Rye Butchers and locally caught fish, as well as many other delicacies and other local produce.

There be stands from the RNLI, Maritime and Coast Guard Agency, and many other attractions.

The event is organised by the Rye Harbour Boat Owners Association, The Rye Harbour Sailing Club and supported by 1066 Country Marketing, Association. Rastrum Ltd, Atlas Business Park and other local businesses.

Organiser Charles Bronsdon said: “The Festival started from a very small event and has grown with a lot of hard work over the years to become one of the town’s major summer attractions.

“It has taken a lot of hard work by a very small team to achieve this. The Festival is purely supported by the good will of local businesses and local sailing clubs.”
