Seven charged in connection with Ford prison riot have appeared in court

Seven men charged in connection with a New Year's Day riot at Ford Open Prison have had their case committed to crown court.

The violence by inmates just after midnight on January 1 saw £3m of damage to buildings and property after a bid to crack down on contraband alcohol.

Roche Allen, Lennie Franklin, Ryan Martin, Thomas Reegan, Lee Roberts and Paul Hadcroft appeared at Chichester Magistrates’ Court on Friday, July 29 charged with arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered and violent disorder.

A seventh man, Carniel Francis, appeared alongside them charged with violent disorder.

No pleas were entered and the case was committed to Lewes Crown Court where all seven men will appear on August 15 for a preliminary hearing.
