Another wonderful afternoon last Friday and among the newbies were John Kingdon, Pete Horton, Ian Williams, Paul Dove, Jeanette Jones, Martin Stoggell and Judy Sillem.
John was kind enough to bring along some reel to reel tapes for Andy Clarke’s recent appeal. He also had with him a very impressive Bruce Springsteen box set and a Beatles CD set in a radio presentation box. Colin Bell has found autographs of The Move and Paul Dove had some posters of Muller, Candy Stripe and Judas. Great photos from Peter Millington of Henry Harvey, Chris Sayer, The Talismen and The Scratchers.
Chat was about Beatles Day, Royal Standard blues nights, The Humperdinks, Factory reunion, Deep Purple, Caves gigs, Hastings Folk Fest, Vox amps which were made at Ponswood and the Hastings wah wah pedal. Remembering WR Hornbrook record shop in Kings Road, records you first heard at the funfair, Slearys Horsemanship, The Suspects, Beez Neez, Jan and The Chaperones, The Inset, Kingsley Trowell and favourite album of all time.
There was much interest in the weekend of Music Talks at The Hub on March 28 and 29 with Archie Lauchlan’s preview pier documentary, Jimi Hendrix new book and Andre Martin’s The Happy Ballroom Talk.
We are looking for more people to join us. Photos and cuttings are welcome for the website, from the 60s onwards with a connection to Hastings. We also have a lively SMART chat group on facebook.com/groups/smart70s/ or contact Alan Esdaile firstname.lastname@example.org. Visit www.ninebattles.com.
