Several burglaries reported across the rural Rother area

POLICE are urging people to be vigilant following an increase in the number of burglaries in Rother.

Homes in Battle, Ashburnham, Burwash and Wallcrouch, between Ticehurst and Wadhurst, were broken into in the space of a few days last week.

On February 18, an intruder was scared off after setting off a burglar alarm at a property in Ashburnham just before 3.30pm.

On February 22 a property in Kings Hill, Burwash, was broken into.

The property was also targeted during the day whilst the occupants were out.

And on the same day, an intruder was disturbed at a house in North Trade Road, Battle.

The owners returned home to the property at 10pm to discover a security light had been activated.

A hole had been made in the front window, but no access had been gained to the building.

Sussex Police are asking residents to remain vigilant and to report anything suspicious.

Sergeant Paul Masterson, of Battle’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The past couple of weeks have seen a slight rise in burglaries across our area and I would ask that people are robust in reporting any suspicious acts or noises at night.

“Please do not feel you are bothering us in the middle of the night. We would rather attend an incident and find out it is an honest mistake than find a crime had been committed and we could have had a chance of catching the offender.

“Despite this recent spate you can be assured that we still live in a low crime area.”
