Localised flooding is possible in East Sussex on Saturday December 21 as the Met Office issued a severe weather warning for rain.

Forecasters said an area of heavy rain and strong winds was expected to cross the UK from Friday afternoon and through Saturday. This will bring some locally large rainfall accumulations, particularly on hills, and following previous wet weather is likely to lead to some localised flooding.

It said the public should be aware of the potential for disruption from flooding and keep up to date with latest forecasts and warnings from the Met Office, Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales.

The Met Office has put East Sussex on yellow alert, which is the least serious type of weather warning, with amber the next level up and red the most serious.

The weather warning is valid from 3pm today (Friday December 20) until 3pm on Saturday December 21, although at this stage it does not look like the heavy rain will set in until after midnight on Saturday.

There will be gale force winds in East Sussex on Saturday too.

Wind speeds will be more than 30mph, while gusts will top 50mph.
