Sex case officers honoured

A TEAM of police staff have been praised for their professionalism in dealing with a case of a sexual offence against a child in Bognor Regis.

Detective Sergeant Martyn Faint and PCs Jackie Keogh and Ivan Randall were presented divisional congratulations at an awards ceremony to honour the shining stars of Sussex Police.

In April the officers received very basic intelligence relating to a sexual offence in Bognor and using their investigative skills and local knowledge they identified the intelligence was about a local high-risk registered sex offender.

A search recovered highly incriminating items which led to the arrest of the offender.

West Downs superintendent Lance Gray, who presented the award to the team, said: "As a direct result of the officers' prompt and professional actions, the offender was recalled to prison and several young children thought to have been abused by this individual have been identified.

"The initial identification of the intelligence, followed by a tenacious and enthusiastic response has resulted in a significant risk to local children being removed."

Their award was one of dozens presented to Chichester, Bognor Regis and Midhurst police officers and staff at an awards ceremony to celebrate the shining stars of Sussex Police.

The awards to mark professionalism, dedication, commitment and bravery were presented by deputy chief constable Giles York and attended by Chief Superintendent Mark Streater, divisional commander for the West Downs division which covers Chichester, Adur, Arun and Worthing.

Chief Supt Streater said: "These awards are given for commitment, professionalism, courage and bravery and capture what lies at the heart of delivering modern-day policing across Sussex night and day; helping and keeping people safe. I am immensely proud of my staff's achievements."
