Shake Rattle and Roll at Battle Abbey

Shake Rattle and Roll visited Battle Abbey Prep School and captivated children and staff alike with a unique showcase of percussion music from around the world.

The day began with a one-hour performance to the whole Prep school introducing a range of percussion instruments. Much laughter, some of it at the teachers, followed and there was plenty of audience participation and costume changes.

The day was then filled with a series of percussion workshops including Samba Carnival, Caribbean Calypso for Key stage 2 and Tribal Rainforest and Ocean workshops for Key Stage 1.

Each session was very "hands on" with each child playing an instrument and having the opportunity to work as part of a team in a group performance at the end.

Head teacher Judy Clark said: "The show was guaranteed to keep the children captivated from start to finish.

"We believe that it is important to get the children interested and aware of as many diverse cultures and art forms as possible at Prep School age.'

"Shake Rattle and Roll really communicated with the children. They created a buzz throughout the school and the rhythms from the workshops filled the school all day."
