She will live with horrors of the attackevery day

Lucy's parents, Hugh and Debbie Yates, praised the health team and the police for their highly professional and skilled reponses to the attack.

"Reid-Wentworth's guilty plea saved Lucy the anguish of having to appear in court and relive the horrors of that day again," they stated.

"For that she is thankful, but we feel we have to say that Lucy has to relive the physical effects of the cowardly attack upon her every day of her life.

"The sentence, though just, can never serve as a truly adequate response to what she has suffered and continues to endure.

"As a family we are here to support her.

"She has our love and admiration in the dignified way she has borne her physical and emotional wounds.

"We are a very close family and would like to say how proud we are of Lucy, who has been so brave throughout this whole ordeal. We are overjoyed that Lucy beat him and she is a miracle because she survived. Lucy has emerged a stronger and more determined young woman. She is someone we are immensely proud to call our daughter."
