Sheikh gets a response

THE Polegate-based Children with Cancer Fund (CWCF) has accepted an invitation from Pevensey farm owner Sheikh Abid Gulzar to send 44 young people and families to a charity barbecue this Thursday evening, August 2.

Last week Mr Gulzar put out an invitation through the Sussex Express inviting nominations for worthy people to attend the event at his farm off Wartling Road, Pevensey.

Such has been the response that he now intends to make it a bigger event, and has invited a number of children’s charities as well.

One of those is the CWCF, run by Polegate’s Chris and Ursula Downton, who will be sending 22 of their members, plus another 22 helpers, family and friends.

Mr Gulzar said: “I am delighted that members of the Children With Cancer Fund will be attending our BBQ.

“This is a truly worthwhile local charity that does so much good work in the local community supporting people who clearly need it.

“I hope that my evening will put a smile on the faces of these young people, and indeed their families, all who deserve a treat once in a while.

“They will be able to see the animals, enjoy the lakeland setting and eat the food and drink the beverages provided - all free of charge.”

CWCF supports youngsters suffering from cancer in the parish and further afield.
