SHOCKING ROAD CASUALTY FIGURES-AND ANOTHER FATALITY

A TEENAGE driver from the Lancing area, who is believed to have passed his driving test only five days previously died after his Peugeot car left the A27 bypass at Sompting and hit a lamp post on Saturday.

Four other people travelling in his car were taken to hospital.

Sam Wilkinson (17) of Lancing area, died in the accident, which happened at 12.30am and the passenegrs were taken to Worthing Hospital, St Richard's Hospital and the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. Three were discharged with minor injuries and one was transferred to hospital in Southampton with serious inuries.

New figures have shown that almost 20 people are killed or seriously injuured on Sussex roads every week. Last year 99 people lost their lives on roads in the county, making it the sixth highest polkice force area in the country for fatalities.
