So when Isadora Brewerton lost part of her favourite toy during a shopping trip to Tesco at the Ravenside Retail Park last Thursday (January 7), her loud sobs brought the store to a standstill.

Mum Jay searched the fruit and veg aisle to no avail.

But one dedicated member of staff refused to give up and proceeded to sift through every piece of fruit and veg in a bid to find the tiny hand from Isadora’s Playmobil man – despite it being smaller than the three-year-old’s fingernail.

After almost an hour of turning over turnips and rummaging through the rhubarb, the tiny appendage was recovered, much to Jay’s relief – not to mention her fellow shoppers.

Jay, who lives in Haslam Crescent, wanted to say a public thank you to Lewis, the member of staff who turned the shop upside down in the name of customer service.

She told the Observer: “She bawled her eyes out, so I spent several minutes myself searching then this young lad came over and kindly asked if he could help and he got other staff involved.

“They searched through every single vegetable in every box, moved the aisles and I totally thought it was a lost cause.

“So he sent me off to let me finish my shopping and said he would keep looking.

“And 20 minutes later he came and found us at the other end of the store as, unbelievably, he had found the missing tiny hand.

“My distraught little girl was so happy!

“And I was genuinely impressed at his perseverance and kindness.”

Jay added: “He was so modest.

“He wouldn’t take any praise.

“There’s not many who would have searched high and low for so long.”

Isadora had got her beloved Playmobil Father Christmas in an advent calendar and for the past six weeks the miniature man has travelled in her pocket everywhere.

Despite his modesty, Lewis has been praised on social networking site Facebook for his dedication.

One person told him ‘well done for making a little girl smile again’ while another said Lewis’ actions ‘lifts the spirits’.

Others have said they intend to write to Tesco’s head office.

They are urging the supermarket giant to recognise young Lewis for his perseverance and going ‘above and beyond’ in the name of customer service.
