He was charged with theft and bailed to appear in court but the next day he was again caught stealing, this time £55 worth of stationery from WHSmith at Priory Meadow shopping centre in Hastings.

Wright was charged with two counts of theft and remanded in custody to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 26 February.

The 27-year-old, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to both offences and was jailed for eight weeks.

Inspector Dan Russell, from Hastings neighbourhood policing team, said: “Len Wright is well known to local retailers, and this is an encouraging result for us.”
