Shoppers’ vote earns Climping carers’ charity £600

SHOPPERS have given a £600 boost to a Climping-based charity which supports carers across West Sussex and part of Hampshire.

Crossroads Care received the lion’s share of the £1,000 Community Matters funding distributed by Waitrose according to the “votes” of customers at its Anchor Springs supermarket in Littlehampton.

Customers are given a green plastic token to place in one of three containers, each representing a local charity. At the end of each month the money is shared out according to how many tokens each good cause has attracted.

On Thursday, Florence Gallen, marketing and fund-raising manager for Crossroads Care South Central, was presented with the cheque for £600 by the store’s manager Simon Dickinson, and Sara Hughes, who organises the Community Matters scheme.

Florence thanked Waitrose, and all the customers voting for Crossroads Care. The charity is part of a national network supporting more than 35,000 people, carers and their families, with the aim of “helping carers to make a life of their own outside caring”. For more information, see the website www.crossroadscare-sc.org or telephone 01903 790270.

* Waitrose wants to hear from more local charities interested in taking part in the Community Matters scheme – application forms are available in the store.
