Shoreham boys bring home the prizes

LOCAL schools have competed in the regional heat of the National Rotary Youthspeak competition.

Shoreham College, Lancing College and The Towers, Upper Beeding, fought it out to go through to the next round of the competition in 2009.

The team prize was won by Shoreham College's team, Taylor Carey, Thomas Anderson and Michael Pearce, with their topic Hidden Heroes.

"All three schools were first-class and the competition very close," said David Gordon, of Shoreham and Southwick Rotary Club.

Each school put forward a team of three pupils '“ a chairperson, a speaker and a vote-of-thanks person.

Shoreham College also won two of the individual prizes, Taylor Carey winning the best speaker award and Thomas Anderson being the best chairperson.

The best-vote-of-thanks prize was won by Elena Gillies from The Towers.

Shoreham College now goes through to the next round in February of next year.
