The church anniversary was combined with the harvest festival service last Sunday.

The Rev Gerald Kirsch preached to a packed church, saying: “We have achieved much in our short history, as a pioneering Church plant.

“We look forward to the future with confidence and hope, for what God has in store for us.”

Among the congregation at Milward Court Day Centre, Wilmot Road, were members of Southlanders’ allotment scheme.

Mr Kirsch said: “They very generously brought along a wonderful selection of their allotment-grown produce.

“After the harvest lunch, these items were auctioned off under the hammer of Mr Alex King, reader in training).

“We were very pleased to donate £100.80 to the Southlanders’ allotment society, being the proceeds of the auction.”

The congregation had also been asked to take along tins, etc., as harvest gifts. These were donated to the Shoreham Churches Together Food Bank.

Mr Kirsch said a total of 30 people were served a harvest lunch of vegetable soup and crusty bread, followed by a tin of ginger beer, which he said was the traditional fare that was served after gathering in the harvest.

“A celebration cake, tea and coffee were an added bonus. We are truly thankful people for all God’s good gifts,” he added.
