Shoreham PCSO stops suicide bid

THE police community support officer who stopped a man from jumping in front of a train has spoken to the Herald about her experience.

Amy Hollin, a PCSO at Shoreham police station, was on foot patrol on Friday, November 21, when a member of the public told her there was a man dangling his legs over the side of the platform at Shoreham railway station.

"I could see a train coming, but I wasn't unduly worried because all trains stop at Shoreham," said PCSO Hollin.

"I got on the side and was talking to him, when I realised the train wasn't going to stop, and I just pulled him out of the way.

"It's just part of our duties."

PCSO Hollin started her training in March of this year.

"I'm quite new in the service and it was a bit of a shock to me, but I just did what I had to do.

"He tried to get in front of the train and I had to pull him back.

"It all happened so quickly.

"I had two options '“ sit there and let him do it or stop him."

The 31-year-old man was detained under the Mental Health Act.
