Shoreham Port hospitality day

Chief executive Rodney Lunn welcomed everyone to Fontwell Park Racecourse and thanked them for their ongoing support.

He also gave a brief update on the latest developments at the port.

Tim Shave, manager at Poole-based builders merchant Sydenhams, said: “It was another roaring success of an outing at the annual Shoreham Port race day. I lost my shirt to the bookies, as always, but no matter as it is not really about the horses but all about the glorious company.

“It is a real pleasure to join the staff and their guests at this event as they are a diverse mix and always guaranteed to make the conversation interesting.”

Among the seven exciting races during the afternoon was the Shoreham Port Handicap Chase for the Alan Arnell Memorial Trophy. Winner Fort Gabriel was ridden by Daniel Hiskett, trained by David Bridgwater and owned by Cwb Plus 2 Partnership. The trophy was presented by Shoreham Port deputy chairman Amber Foster and non-executive board member Joanne Newell.

Amber said: “We had another fantastic day at Fontwell Park. This is our seventh consecutive year at the racecourse and it remains a firm favourite with our staff and guests.

“The service we received was second to none and it was great for us to be able to catch up with our customers and build relationships in such a relaxed and friendly setting.”

Among the guests was Lars Widelund, port director at the Port of Skelleftea in Sweden.

As well as attending the race day, he was given a tour of the Shoreham Port timber terminals by commercial and operations director Alan Motterham

He said: “It was a really enjoyable experience at the races. It was the first time for me at the racetrack and still, I left the track £25 pounds richer.

“Alan Motterham from Shoreham Port who has been a fantastic host during my visit. I was extremely impressed with the good order and smart structure of the operations, which helps their customers to have a swift and efficient service.”
