Shoreham talent on show in nativity plays

SCHOOLCHILDREN from across the area celebrated the festive season with performances at their schools..

Holmbush

Youngsters at Holmbush Primary School, Shoreham, performed two different Christmas plays in one week, with pupils from years two, three and four performing one show and those in reception and year one staging another.

The older children performed Sparkle, the story of a little star chosen to guide the three wise men to the baby Jesus.

Reception and year one pupils performed Ralph the Reindeer, a tale of a reindeer chosen to lead Santa's sleigh when Rudolph gets a cold.

St Peter's

Two different versions of the Christmas story were performed at St Peter's RC Primary School, in Sullington Way, Shoreham.

Pupils in years three, four, five and six performed A Late Wise Man, the story of the fourth wise man who was so busy helping the needy he missed the birth of Jesus.

However, he still got to meet Jesus later in life because he helped all those around him.

Children from reception to year two performed Born in a Barn '“ the traditional Christmas story of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem.

There was also a collection after each performance for the Catholic Fund for Overseas Development (CaFOD), which helps under-privileged children across the world.

Eastbrook

Pupils at Eastbrook Primary School's Fishersgate site retold the story of well-loved Christmas carol Silent Night for their festive show.

Pupils from reception to year four took part in a production of the Barney Christmas Play, directed by teacher Vikki Brooker.

The play told the story of Barney, a church mouse who ate the organ bellows so the congregation couldn't play their normal carols and had to create a new one '“ Silent Night.

A collection was also held for the Chestnut Tree House children's hospice, raising more than 70.

Upper Beeding

At Upper Beeding Primary School, the Christmas story was told through the eyes of four farmyard animals, as children from reception, year one and year two classes performed A Cock-a-Doodle-Doo Christmas.

As well as performing the show to the school and parents, there was also a special performance for senior citizens in the village.

A Cock-a-Doodle-Doo Christmas is the story of four farmyard animals who are talking about what they want for Christmas when Jesus is born in their barn and they realise he is the best gift of all.
