Sidley fete success

IT WAS a case of second time lucky when Sidley Residents Association finally got to hold their summer fete last Saturday as it had been cancelled three weeks before due to the wet weather.

However, this time the sun shone down from clear blue skies and local people flocked to the event which is now in it's third year.

The afternoon began with a fancy dress parade with gift vouchers presented to the winners, then there was plenty on offer to keep people of all ages entertained including a bouncy castle and small fair ground, a coconut shy, teas and coffees supplied by Sidley Baptist Church, a raffle and tombola with stalls selling bric a brac, home-made cakes, locally grown vegetables and plants and face painting. There was dancing and piped music from local band Gael and many people entered their pets in the popular dog show.

Mr Ray Croft, secretary of Sidley Residents Association said that up until three years ago there hadn't been a fete in Sidley for over forty years but that now they had "resurrected it", they intend for it to be an annual event.

He said that they want to, "work with the community for the community", adding that the funds were raised to, "use for Sidley projects". For example a young man called Chris Evans got a set of bagpipes he'd wanted. Ray said: "The measure of our success is that if residents see something they want to do we help them to move on to do it."
