Signs will warn drivers not to speed

The warnings are being made available in the Western Arun area following a decision to improve road safety.

The arrival of the signs, costing some £900, was agreed by West Sussex County Council members from the joint western Arun area committee. The council will now work in partnership with local neighbourhood police teams.

The grant to pay for the signs has come from the community initiative funding which helps projects led by nearby organisations.

George Blampied, chairman of the county councillors, said: “The signs will give a supplementary message reminding drivers that the speed limit is 30mph.

“They will be around A3 size and will say ‘Think 30 in Arun’ or similar.

“The Community Initiative Fund helps local groups – we still have money available and anyone with a worthwhile project who wants support should consider applying for a grant.”

Councillors also agreed to give £388 to develop the public gardens in the West Meads precinct.

The next committee meeting is being held on November 21 at the Rowland Park Centre.
