Silence is golden for Beaver Scouts

BEAVER Scouts have learned just how much can be done to help in the Third World.

The youngsters in Plumpton raised 218 through a sponsored silence, collecting coins in Smarties' tubes and a cake sale.

This relatively small sum purchased items including a cowpat stove for Nepal, a meal for 70 children in Cambodia, plus a toilet, classroom equipment and training for a health worker, a goat and a farming plot in Zimbabwe.

The scheme is which the children contributed to is administered by World Vision, and they were sent cards featuring pictures and details of the items they had purchased to illustrate just how much good they had done.
