Silver surfers learn their IT skiils

Information technology used to be baffling. But now ... less so.

Residents of Glovers Court were delighted to be offered the chance to improve their music and IT skills using the internet.

Rother Homes, in partnership with local organisation Musikata and Age Concern, are providing computer courses for over-55s living in Sidley.

As soon as they heard, the residents of Glovers Court immediately offered their lounge up as the venue, but the course has now transferred to Auckland House where there is more space and internet access.

Eight residents are now taking part in the course with two more participants coming from the Sidley area.

Angela Sharman from Rother Homes said: "This has been a brilliant way to blast misconceptions about older people and the internet with all the participants enjoying themselves immensely. As all our schemes will soon have computers installed in their communal lounges, we are looking to have similar courses in the future."
