The large, colourful piece of artwork and calligraphy was inspired by the school prayer and now hangs in pride of place in the school hall.

Parents and friends of the school saw the new artwork blessed by the village rector, the Rev Kev Robinson, during a harvest thanksgiving service last Wednesday.

Head teacher Christopher Todd said: “Every pupil has contributed to the new artwork, which will have a major impact in the school hall.

“The pupils took their stimulus from their local environment, taking photographs and researching pictures of flowers, trees and animals to help them with their artwork, using the school prayer, which speaks of the ‘beautiful nature around us’ as their inspiration.”

Thanks to a donation from the local branch of the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies, the pupils were able to work with local artist and calligrapher, Cathy Stables, who provided expert knowledge and advice throughout the development of the project during the summer term.

It was a busy term for Singleton pupils, who also staged a production of the musical The Pirates of the Curry Bean in July, in which all pupils were involved.
