Sisters’ gift rewards Yapton home’s care for ill mum

DAUGHTERS whose mother died have rewarded the kindness of staff at a Yapton nursing home that cared for her with a £500 donation.

Sisters Maureen Cooper and Janice Hawes presented the cash windfall to Warmere Court, in Downview Way, as an expression of their gratitude for the support nurses provided for their dying mother, Audrey Wells.

They felt that £500 would be better spent improving the lives of other residents at the home than on flowers for their mother’s funeral.

Home manager Julie Levy said: “I was truly astounded, when I opened a letter addressed to me at work, and a thank-you note plus a number of cheques fell out from the envelope!”

Audrey lived in Littlehampton, Arundel and East Preston and had worked for a clothing manufacturer before retiring.
