Six-point action plan follows High School parent survey

It follows feedback received from a questionnaire which asked parent and carers for their perceptions about the school.

The survey revealed "significant concerns" about behaviour in the school and with levels of communication and consultation between home and school.

The action being taken is outlined in the Christmas edition of the school magazine BH 7-11.

The questionnaires followed Ofsted's pattern - so closely that the only difference was the logo at the top of the page.

BH 7-11 says: "Your responses were detailed and interesting, and we'd like to take this opportunity to inform you about the actions we are taking to address your concerns.

"More than eight out of ten of you reported that your children were happy at school; just over seven out of ten felt that your children were making good progress; the same proportion felt that your children were safe and well cared-for.

"However, your responses showed significant concerns with behaviour in the school, also with levels of communication and consultation between home and school."

The action includes:

*Four "learning panels" established, made up of parents, governors, students and senior staff, to address issues concerned with learning and teaching in communication, enterprise, lifeskills and technology

*The school's reporting system comprehensively overhauled, interim reports on pupil progress have been changed, making them clearer and easier to understand. Crucial Year 11 reports due to be sent out in the coming term will follow a new format. The reports will be followed by a parents' evening. *Work is well underway on a Virtual Learning Environment which will enable parents and students to access learning materials, homework and attainment levels to make communication with the school and with teachers easier

*Regular newsletters and the BH7-11 magazine will continue and will contain essential information about examinations and term dates

*Every individual concern expressed via the questionnaire forms has been followed up and resolved

*Student focus groups have met to discuss low-level disruption in lessons and new procedures to deal with these will be in place in the New Year
