Sixty firefighters tackle house blaze

SIXTY firefighters and twelve fire engines rushed to a fire.

Residents fled their homes when a two-storey terraced house caught fire at The Parade, Beachlands,Pevensey Bay, yesterday (Monday).

One elderly woman was treated for smoke inhalation.

Around 3.30pm four fire engines arrived at the scene.

They quickly called for back-up when they saw the scale of the fire.

Six more engines arrived and they were joined by two fire engines from Haywards Heath.

Firefighters went into the house and removed two butane and one propane cylinders as a precaution.

The ground and first floor of the house were damaged.

The internal structure was deemed unsafe and officers ordered them to withdraw back to the road.

Then the fire crew surrounded the fire and put it out with a mixture of foam and water.

An aerial ladder was also used.

At 4.58pm the fire began to scale down and the last fire engine left the scene at 11.19pm.

An investigation was launched to discover the reasons behind the blaze.
