Installed by Fearless Ramps Ltd in early May following a tender at the beginning of the year, the new jump box is constructed of galvanised steel and a birch ply riding surface.

This key piece of skate park equipment has been repositioned 2m away from surrounding objects to comply with the latest British Standards for Wheeled sports and is bespoke made for park users.

The width of the box has been narrowed to 3m from 3.6m as voted for by Crawley Freestyle Association members to comply with current standards.

Crawley Freestyle Association work in partnership with Crawley Borough Council to run the park.

The project was funded by Crawley Council at a cost of £9,635; the steel frame is guaranteed for 20 years while the riding surface is guaranteed for five years.

Cllr Chris Mullins, Cabinet member for Wellbeing, said: “The skate park is really well used and the jump box was tired and in need of replacement, not least to comply with current standards.

“We’re committed to providing great leisure facilities in the town and it’s good to see youngsters staying active rather than sitting in front of a games console, and if this doesn’t keep you fit I don’t what will!”

Dave Downey, CFA Chair added: “It’s great to have the skate park being improved. It is such a popular and well-used facility, but this does mean that parts of it can wear down quicker than others, so it’s important to make upgrades in order to maintain its reputation as one of the best skate parks in the region.

“As always, the CFA has been closely consulted on this project by CBC, to ensure that all modifications reflect the needs of the users. We are looking forward to continuing this positive working relationship by consulting the users together about the next planned upgrade options.”

Further improvements to the skate park are set after the half pipe became structurally unsound and was removed. A consultation on whether to replace the half pipe or install a new street course will start next month.
