Ski Monday

Since when was cross-country skiing and tobogganing on the school curriculum?

Since the weekend, that's when, and pupils of Charters Ancaster preparatory school and nursery enjoyed plenty of outdoor fun in the snow and ice.

Charters Ancaster has some serious talent in this kind of winter sport -pupil Lars Thorkildsen has won two silver and bronze medals in giant slalom races in Austria.

Lars skis regularly against local county skiers in Bad Hofgastein and has been invited to attend their professional ski school in a few years time where he will be able to train with the Austrian Ski team.

Coached by his Norwegian father, Lars natural talent was spotted by Austrian coach Fritz who said: "He has good low gravity and skis like Bodie Miller".

His next target is to take four seconds off his personal best to achieve Gold. His younger brother Kristian is following in his footsteps, so watch this space for future ski champions.
