Skittles champs celebrate

NEARLY 1,500 people enjoyed Lewes Skittles Week.

Close to 10,000 was collected on behalf of a host of good causes during the popular six-night event organised by the Rotary Club of Lewes.

Admission was free at Southover Grange Gardens but visitors generously donated a total of 1,250 at the gate which will be split between Lewes Victoria Hospital and St Peter and St James Hospice.

The winners, runners up and notable scores, were:

Cliffe Bonfire Society, overall winner of the Lewes Prison Cup and 100 sponsored by the Shoe Gallery; and the Bonfire Society Trophy for the highest Bonfire society team score.

St Mary's Supporters Club, runner up, won the Stan Holland Trophy.

Rolf's Didgeridoos, produced the highest score and won the Stan Holland Salver.

The Asparagus Girls and the Hazel Nuts were the joint winners of the Wooden Man for the lowest team scores.

The Elephant and Castle won the Millennium Trophy for the highest score from a pub team.

Team Y scooped a 50 cheque for the highest service (including Lions and Rotary) team score.

The Guinness Girls were the ladies champions, winning the Sussex Express Cup.

Ladies runners up Top Trumps won the British Legion Shield.
