More than 530 participated in the event, also know as the Castle Cycle Challenge.

The popular event, organised by the Rotary Club of St Leonards, was launched 27 years ago and has raised more than £250,000 for charity and good causes in the town since its inception.

Ray Howard, spokesman for the club, said Sunday’s On Yer Bike fundraiser went very well, adding that half of the 538 who took part opted to undertake the longer 40-mile route, which started at the RNLI station in Hastings, proceeding to Pevensey Castle to Herstmonceux Castle and returning along the Rickney Marsh road.

The amount raised at this year’s On Yer Bike is expected to be announced in July.
