A clear, bright Boxing Day broughts hundreds of well-wishers to East Hoathly to watch an assorted stable of vehicles race from pub to pub in aid of the village’s Carnival and Bonfire Society.
Starting at noon from the King’s Head, a tank, a bus, a sledge, a fire engine and a ‘vintage car’ cornered with verve as they aimed to be the first at the bar of the Foresters Arms at the other end of the village.
Kings Head landlord Robert Wallis said: “It was a brilliant day. The weather makes a big difference. We’ve been running the Kings Head Canter race in August for 17 years now and every year the numbers go up but last year it rained and there were fewer people. Boxing Day’s good weather brought everyone out. The bar was completely packed.”
