Slideshow: Food festival at Glynde Place

Thousands of Sussex foodies flocked to Glynde Place to watch cookery demonstrations, taste gourmet treats and sample fine English wines last weekend.

At the height of the heatwave, they sheltered in a shady marquee watching celebrity chefs John Torode, Matt Gillan, John Torode, John Whaite and Paul Kelly perform on the chef’s stage and demonstrate simple dishes with flair. Also on stage was talented Dhruv Baker, winner of Masterchef 2010.

In the How To tent, an artisan butcher, foragers Wild at Heart, a smokehouse operator, Hunter Gather Cook founder and TV survival expert Nick Weston and the Brighton and Hove Food Society showed there is more to food than plonking a steak into a pan.

Waitrose supported tutored wine tastings and an English wine marquee featured fizz, whites and reds from Sussex, Kent and Hampshire based vineyards.

There were also children’s cookery classes and book signings in a foodie book shop run by WH Smith which stocked books by all the chefs appearing at the Festival.

Founder of the English Wine Centre at Alfriston, Christopher Ann flew in from his Cornish home for the day on Saturday.
