Slindon student picks up first prize at show

Desiree Tatton, 17, was presented with the prize for best Level Two Student Assignment at the Autumn Show and Game Fair on October 4.

Desiree was studying for a diploma in agriculture at Brinsbury Chichester College when she created the winning assignment, which was a presentation about how healthy plant growth is maintained.

The presentation included research into pests, weeds, and diseases that affect the health of plants.

Desiree said: “I feel 
really happy and I’m 
shocked I got first prize – I really didn’t expect it.

“I’m going to carry on my studies in agriculture and hope to work in sheep farming when I finish my course.”

At the presentation ceremony at the Autumn Show, Michael Lambert, chairman of the South of England Agricultural Society, along with Howard Wood, who has been involved with the society for many years, congratulated winners and runners-up.

Howard Wood said: “The society plays a significant role in introducing young people to land-based careers and I am very pleased to be involved with the society’s Next Generation Campaign this year.

“Working in partnership with colleges, schools and other businesses, the society hopes to inspire other young achievers to come into an industry which is rich with diversity and opportunities, which is crucial.”
