Slinfold club shows support for service

Ann Grain, who presented a cheque to the charity on the evening of March 17 said: “Traditionally the Ladies section chooses worthy causes in the UK as their Captain’s charity but after working with the Virtual Doctors on a pro bono basis with my company jag press & publicity, including designing their fantastic logo, it really captured my imagination.

“We continually complain about the NHS in this country and yet in Zambia very sick people often have to walk long distances, sometimes a whole day, across difficult terrain seeking medical assistance, only to be told to return on another day for results and further treatment. I felt compelled to do something to help and encourage others to do the same.

“We are delighted to learn that our donation will be helping to fund a service which speeds up diagnosis and treatment of those suffering chronic illnesses. Money was raised through a variety of activities, including seven members taking part in a Triathlon, donations for hand warmers, competition fees, collection boxes, selling Srixon caps and much more.”

Huw Jones, Virtual Doctor’s Executive Director said: “We can’t thank everyone enough. Virtual Doctors has a strategy to expand our service across Zambia and the amount raised is enough to help fund the cost of setting up in a new rural health centre, which includes providing a computer tablet loaded with bespoke telemedicine software, training of the medical professionals as well as providing the bandwidth for a year. The Virtual Doctors look to empower overworked and under-resourced clinical officers at health centres using a combination of cutting-edge telemedicine technology in collaboration with qualified volunteer doctors in the UK.”
