Slot car club races to success with open day

A CLUB'S open day on Saturday saw scores of visitors come through the doors.

Bexhill Scale Slot Car Club held the event at White House Farm in Netherfield, near Battle, which attracted people from as far away as Devon.

Martin Douglas, the club’s chairman, said: “The open day was a success and we had people coming and going all day. There were always at least a dozen visitors inside. A lot of young people with their parents came, as well as those who had not raced slot cars for 40 years, and were surprised it still existed. We have had a lot of emails since the weekend asking about club membership.”

Bexhill Scale Slot Car Club was formed last November and its purpose is to promote the racing and collection of hard-bodied slot cars.

Despite its name, the club meets in Netherfield and has a purpose-built six-lane hardwood circuit with a lap length of about 110 feet. Practice nights are held on Monday from 7.30pm and club nights are held weekly on Thursday from 7.30pm, and on occasional weekends. The slot cars members run are made by Scalextric, Ninco, SCX, NSR, Carrera, and other similar companies.
