Smell leads to a large drugs haul

Drugs were seized from a car in Hailsham after two PCSOs allegedly smelled drugs coming from a passing vehicle.

The two Sussex Police staff were in South Road in Hailsham when a vehicle passed them and stopped at the BP garage shortly after 9pm on Monday (November 11), police said.

Police said the officers called for support and a man and a vehicle were searched.

Police said a large quantity of cannabis, a set of scales and cash were seized from the scene of the search.

Inspector Tony Wakefield, from Sussex Police, said the incident was a great example of proactive police work and the PCSOs quickly spotted the alleged offence.

He said: “The PCSOs were quickly supported, leading to the arrest of a suspect and more drugs being taken off the streets of Hailsham.”

Police said anyone with information about drug dealing in the community should call them on the force’s non-emergency number 101.
