Sniff and search team join nationwide squad

FIREFIGHTER Jon Lacey and springer spaniel Tilly, who are part of the county's specialist technical rescue unit, based at Horley Fire Station, have been selected to join a new nationwide sniff and search squad.

Jon and Tilly are now one of 21 teams on standby to be swiftly deployed across the country to sniff out people trapped in collapsed buildings and open area searches for missing people. The unit is also one of 12 that can be deployed overseas.

John and Tilly have already been in action in Whitechapel, East London, when they took part in the search for missing persons in a collapsed building.
