Snow is no match for Northiam Council

NORTHIAM Parish Council has won praise from residents for the way it tackled the big freeze.

The council sprang into action when heavy snow hit last month implementing its winter weather programme.

It provided grit to residents for footpaths and side roads, making it safer for pedestrians and allowing motorists to reach the main roads, which were treated by East Sussex County Council.

Parish Clerk Sue Keighley said: “This was some of the worst pre-Christmas snow in living memory.

“Several residents have complimented the council on its efforts which helped who were having difficulty in getting out and about.

“I am pleased to say we still have stocks of grit for any further periods of snow and ice we may get this winter.”

Looking further ahead, the parish council is considering helping to organise a street party in the village to celebrate April’s royal wedding.

Any village organisation or individual who would like to help with the planning of this event should contact Sue Keighley on 01797 253990 or email [email protected].
