The statement read: “Outpatient clinics at Worthing and Southlands were affected for a time this morning but are now able to offer all scheduled appointments as usual. However, patients should continue to follow Sussex police advice and travel only if it is safe to do so.

“St Richard’s Hospital has not been affected by the snow.

“If you do need to cancel your outpatient appointment, please follow the instructions on your appointment letter - only call the main hospital number if you need to speak to someone urgently, as the switchboard is currently experiencing a very high volume of calls. Apologies for any delay you may experience in getting through.”

A spokesman said the trust’s main switchboard staff had been inundated with calls and he apologised for any delays in getting through to them - callers should try again later on if they are able to, he added.
