Snow woe returns to Battle

Snow woe returned to Battle this morning (Thursday), closing roads and leaving the town's High Street deserted.

Battle Hill, which was forced to close because of heavy snowfall last month, was shut once again after a lorry got stuck near Tesco Express.

Meanwhile another lorry driver escaped serious injury when his vehicle skidded off Kitchenham Road in Ashburnham, coming to rest in a field, at 3.20am today.

The man was helped from his cab by Battle fire crews before he was taken to the Eastbourne District General Hospital with leg and neck pain.

Back in Battle, a gritting lorry and snowplough were seen in the High Street this morning, and once again Battle Town Council staff, along with some volunteers, have been working to keep the pavements clear.

Several of the town centre shops were shut and public transport was disrupted.

Meanwhile the weather forced many schools to close for the day, with children enjoying an extra 'snow day' ahead of next week's half term.
