Society hopes to drive golf to a more inclusive future in Rustington

DISABILITY isn’t a barrier to golf, as a national charity will prove on Wednesday (April 27).

The Disabled Golf Society (DGS) will hold a taster day at the Rustington Golf Centre, Golfers Lane, Angmering, from 10am.

Graeme Robertson, national events co-ordinator and trustee for the non-profit making DGS, said: “I was diagnosed with MS 12 years ago. I used to play golf to a reasonable standard but thought my playing days were over as I can barely walk.

“I am now playing with the DGS, and with the aid of specialist equipment I am enjoying my life again and gaining from the therapeutic benefits golf has to offer.”

He added that the society aimed to make sure more clubs were disabled-friendly, and to help provide specialist equipment to disabled golfers.

“In our first year, we have gained over 200 members and attracted a true cross-section of disabilities. Our members realise they can have a friendly and enjoyable experience,” he added.

On offer at the event next week will be professional coaching from David Llewellyn, and the chance to try the sport.

Anyone with any form of disability is welcome to attend.
