Society says Bognor Regis bowling green should stay

A VOTE has revealed people want bowling facilities in Bognor Regis to stay put.

The poll taken at Bognor Regis Civic Society’s meeting revealed the majority wanted the bowling greens in Waterloo Square and Swansea Gardens to stay put.

Present at the meeting, were representatives from bowling clubs which use the facilities.

Bowlers said they had not been consulted about the ambitious leisure strategy put forward by consultants Colliers International.

Ideas included in the blueprint, which could see some £12m transform the town into a top tourism destination, were a refurbishment of West Park, including moving tennis and bowls facilities from Swansea Gardens, and relocation of bowling lawns from Waterloo Square.

Waterloo Square could then be re-landscaped and turned into a micro park which could stage outdoor events.

The town’s mayor Jim Brooks said: “A seaside town without bowling greens and bowls would be like having a seaside town without seagulls.”
