SOLSTICE CEREMONY IN LEWES

SOME 50 people, including Lewes District Council chairman Marina Pepper, stood at the top of the Tump off Mountfield Road, Lewes, today (Friday) to witness the winter solstice sunrise.

Also present was Philip Carr-Gomm, head of the International Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids.

There was singing and dancing '“ but the sun failed to appear through the clouds.

Some believe the man-made Tump is actually a solar clock, aligned to the seasonal solstices.
