Fourteen criers from all over the country took part in the annual, colourful, event at Priory Meadow.

They were judged on their volume, diction, clarity and inflection together with their fit of costume, bearing, overall appearance and use of historically relevant groups.

Hastings Mayor Judy Rogers, who attended the event, said: “We were very pleased to welcome all the criers to Hastings this year for the national event but also as part of our 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings celebrations.

“It was great to see so many attend and stay for the rest of the day to take part in other events in the town organised for Hastings Week.”

This year’s overall winner, by only one point, was Alistair Chisholm from Dorchester with Ken Knowles from Lichfield in second place and Dev Hobson from Middlewich in third place.
