Sompting development plans withdrawn

A CONTROVERSIAL plan for 36 new houses in Sompting has been withdrawn.

The proposed development of the old nursery site north of West Street by PlanArch Design Ltd received massive opposition from people living in the village.

Tim Clarke, chairman of the planning sub-committee for Sompting Parish Council, said: "Before we all pull out the champagne and start celebrating I understand the applicants are going to be looking at all the objections, will try and resolve as many as possible, and then re-submit.

"They clearly do not realise how opposed the community is to this development.

"If they submit again, this will simply prove that they intend making a fortune out of this development at the expense of the community they will be destroying."

Strategic Plan

Mr Clarke also said the plans were in "direct contravention" of Adur's Strategic Plan.

Local MP Tim Loughton said: "I think it is a case of first battle won but I don't think that will be the end of it.

"I just can't see how they can make it in such a way to overcome the objections."

Mr Clarke has created a Facebook group, Sompting against Nursery Site Development, for anyone interested in the development to join and have their say.
