Sompting road closed

A ROAD in Sompting had to be closed yesterday morning when a car hit a pedestrian refuge island.

A black Ford Fiesta heading east hit the lamppost on the island in Cokeham Road just before 11am.

Sussex Police had to close the road east of the junction with Cokeham Lane while firefighters cut part of the the lamppost down, to make it safe.

The damaged car was then moved to the side of the road.

Pulse buses were held up for about half an hour but the Compass no.16 was able to re-route.
