Song and dance numbers showcased at Littlehampton society’s celebration

LITTLEHAMPTON Musical Comedy Society is about to warm the town up for the Queen’s jubilee festivities with its own diamond anniversary spectacular.

Diamond Jubilee Musical will showcase songs and dance numbers from every decade of the society’s 60 years, in three performances from Friday to Sunday at the Windmill Entertainment Centre, next week.

Taking part will be 70 past and present members, some returning to celebrate the milestone of a group where they learned to love the theatre, and have gone on to enjoy professional careers.

Jan Combes, co-creative director of the show with Lynne Jones, said: “We like to think of the society as one big family and we are all there to support each other, not just with the shows but in everyday things as well.

“Some of our members have met their partners while being involved with the productions and quite often going on to have their own productions – children who also become members, backstage crew or supporters at some time or other over the years.

“We have a few members who are currently at university or working away from Littlehampton, who are dashing back when they can to take part in this celebration show, and one who has just returned from working on a cruise ship in Australia and is fitting us into the gap between his professional contracts.”

Among those taking part who have been in professional productions are Alexandra Finch, 13, who was in Billy Elliot the Musical, for 18 months, Jay Dix, who appeared in Singin’ in the Rain at Chichester Festival Theatre and Martin Bennett, a professional singer.
